Best Buy - FY26 Holiday AE Toolkit
Role: Animation and branded AE toolkit development and build out.
Over the last few years, I’ve had the privilege to work with Best Buy on developing branded AE toolkits to ensure brand consistency across multiple media types, including broadcast, social media, and digital.
Branded After Effects Toolkits
Consistency, efficiency, accessibility, and scaleability are all important considerations in developing a branded tool kit. Without these four considerations, your brand can vary wildly and lead to undesired outcomes and poor brand recognition.
You may have motion standards laid out in your style guide, but that can be left to interpretation. A branded tool kit will ensure that those motion standards are curated and locked in for your internal and external teams to use.
Developing the Best Buy Holiday Toolkit
-
Each year Best Buy updates their holiday look. I first study the new style guide and assets, then meet their creative team to review needs and goals.
-
After reviewing the creative team's goals, I make motion studies that bring their holiday look to life. This includes everything from full transitional moments to micro-interactions.

After several rounds of motion exploration, we begin fine-tuning. For Best Buy, we focused on the 16×9 aspect ratio and the different layout scenarios it requires (single product, multiple products, text-only, etc.).
-
Now that we've finalized motion, visuals, and layout for 16×9, we need to apply this style across all deliverables.
-
After making examples for every aspect ratio and scenario, we’re now optimizing and refining the After Effects file. We’re also creating a PDF guide that explains the file in detail. Besides keeping brand consistency, the tools are meant to let both novice and advanced users quickly understand and use them.
